Maria Rojas (She, Her, Ella) - Hablo Español

About me: Hello! I am Maria Rojas (she, her, ella), and I am an Associate Professional Clinical Counselor with many years of experience in community mental health and school-based mental health. I believe that all people are capable of growth and change, and my goal is to provide a warm, supportive space where you feel heard, accepted, and empowered to explore what matters most to you. I use a person-centered, humanistic approach, while incorporating postmodern perspectives that honor your unique experiences, cultural practices, and strengths. I also enjoy using expressive arts to help explore and process emotions, build insight, and tell your story. Together, we'll work at your pace to find the tools and approaches that best support your goals and overall well-being.

My Experience: I have been working in the mental health field for the past 7 years! I have gained experience in a wide variety of settings, including inpatient, outpatient, and school systems. I began my journey working as a crisis counselor at the California Youth Crisis Line in 2019; this sparked my love for the field and led me to work in a short-term residential facility serving adolescents 12 - 18. I continued my work as a case manager in the Tenderloin and Bayview districts of San Francisco, working with families through all stages of life. I continued gaining experience during my internships within the San Francisco Unified School District and Marin County Office of Education, where I completed three successful internships across middle and high schools, where I facilitated individual, family, and group sessions in English and Spanish covering topics including depression, conflict resolution, healthy relationships, communication, anxiety, emotional regulation, and life transitions.

My Education:

Bachelor of Arts in Psychology with a Minor in English - University of California, Davis

Master of Arts in Counseling Psychology with an Emphasis in School Counseling - University of San Francisco

Theoretical Orientation:

I use an integrated approach based on person-centered, humanistic modalities, while incorporating postmodern perspectives that honor your unique experiences, cultural practices, and unique strengths. I also enjoy using expressive arts to help explore and process emotions, build insight, and tell your story.
